Antenna Web
Use www.antennaweb.org, enter the home address, review channels, determine the type of antenna needed.
Antenna color codes are broken into six different zones. These zones identify the different types of antennas that are required for a consumer to receive optimal reception:
- Yellow and Green = Indoor
- Light Green, Red, Blue, and Violet = Outdoor
Antenna Types
- Small Multi-directional: The smallest of TV antennas, they receive equally well from all directions
- Color Code: Yellow
- Medium Multi-directional: Somewhat larger and slightly more powerful antennas
- Color Code: Green
- Large Multi-directional: Larger antennas that receive more signal power (great for long-distance signal sources)
- Color Code: Light Green
- Small Directional: Antennas that act like large multi-directional on channel 2-6 but on higher channels they have useful ghost reducing effects - picture quality is excellent when no signal reflecting structures are around
- Color Code: Light Green
- Medium Directional: Modest size antenna with ghost reducing characteristics
- Color Code: Yellow, Green, Light Green, Red, Blue
- Large Directional: Large antennas used in weak signal areas for maximum possible TV reception
- Color Code: Green, Light Green, Red, Blue (with amplifier), Violet (with amplifier)
FCC Reception Maps
Use https://www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps, enter the home address, review channels, determine the signal strength if the customers opt into using an Outdoor Antenna*.
*Signal strength calculations assume an outdoor antenna 30 feet above ground level. Actual reception quality may vary significantly for viewers using an indoor antenna.
